Description of the book

Because voyage planning is an important element of safe navigation and difficulties often arise due to the existing plan is not in according to the requirements of the regulatory authorities, the author Captain Ralph Becker-Heins has written this textbook. The guide Voyage Planning with ECDIS specifies the requirements and offers proven and good solutions for all the steps involved in drawing up a voyage plan with electronic charts.
The book is aimed at newcomers to the bridge and nautical students as well as the "old hands" who have been at sea for many years. Pilots and other professional navigators also benefit from the author's wealth of experience and knowledge.

The book Voyage Planning with ECDIS starts by looking at the regulatory background and information sources for data and advice available to the nautical officer. The preparations for voyage planning with the ECDIS are then explained in a vivid way. The main part of the book takes all funtions of the ECDIS into account and deals step by step with voyage planning. It shows practical examples and gives hints for special attention. The completion of the individual intermediate steps can be checked on the basis of small tasks. For an online simulation, which covers all tasks of the book, an order possibility is available on the homepage of the author. See also www.safebridge.net.
